Detours will be in place on Uzzell Church Road starting July 24 as Virginia Department of Transportation crews replace the bridge over Champion Swamp.

The road, also known as Route 692, will be closed to through traffic between Bob White Road (Route 652) and Carroll Bridge Road (Route 654) with signed detours in place. Access to existing private property and businesses will be maintained at all times.

The work will include demolishing the existing Champion Swamp bridge and constructing a new, two-lane, single-span, multi-beam girder bridge. The work is expected to be complete by summer 2024.
