Route 10 reopens in Surry County following log truck crash

Route 10 in Surry County reopened just before midnight on July 24 following a single-vehicle crash that shut down traffic for hours.

According to Virginia State Police, a tractor-trailer hauling logs was traveling west on Route 10 (Colonial Trail West) when the vehicle ran off the roadway and overturned, striking two utility poles, around 5 p.m.

The driver, 52-year-old Vincent Thomas of Sutherland, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Thomas has been charged with reckless driving and failure to maintain control of his vehicle.

The tractor-trailer was removed from the roadway at 8:17 p.m. Utility poles that were affected were repaired by 11:24 p.m.

The roadway reopened at 11:28 p.m. Logs remaining on-scene are to be removed today, July 25.
