Two charitable causes — Reel Recovery and the Smithfield High School Special Education Student Support Fund — benefited from recent performances by the All Y’All Players. The community theater group performed three murder mystery dinner shows at the Smithfield Inn June 16-18 and at Wharf Hill Brewing Co. on June 30 and July 1. Each organization received $1,000. Jill Gwaltney accepted the SHS donation from Kathy Strozak and Gigi Smith of All Y’all Players. The donation will go to help give students functional and life skills needed to enhance employment opportunities. Gary Parsons accepted the check for Reel Recovery, which conducts free fly fishing retreats for men battling cancer. The shows were directed by John B. Gillis, who retired on July 1. A costumed Halloween murder mystery dinner show is planned for Sept. 29-30 and Oct. 6-7.
