Thomas Laughton Judkins, age 68, passed away Thursday August 10th 2023, peacefully at home surrounded by family after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was a loving Husband, Father and Pop-Pop. Born and raised in Surry County, he was always a big part of his community. Thomas was a lifelong farmer, enjoying his cows and being on his tractor. He was a life member of the Surry Volunteer Fire Department serving 27 years as a member, assistant chief, and fire chief. He was also a member of Surry Volunteer Rescue Squad for many years. More recently he enjoyed spending his days being on the farm working alongside his son, Daniel, and wife Gloria, and spent numerous days watching his grandsons play baseball. Thomas is survived by his wife Gloria Lane Judkins; son Daniel Thomas Judkins (Jennifer) of Surry; step-daughters Caitlin Fauth (Adam) of Spokane Washington and Nikki Callaway (Buddy) ofWanchese North Carolina; three grandchildren Reid, Walker, and Hayes of Surry; and five step-grandchildren Abbey, Daniel, Oliver, Willow, and David of Spokane Washington; and his “special” Leann Schlachte. He was preceded in death by his parents Sidney and Hazel Judkins and brother Sid all of Surry. The family would like to give thanks to Dr. Lauren Salmon and Nurse Trish at Riverside Cancer Specialists of Tidewater, Dr. Michele Nedelka at Bon Secours Oncology Specialists, and Nurse Carmen and Nurse Shay with Gentiva Hospice-Petersburg branch for helping him through this journey. The family would also like to thank their friends and family members for their love and support during this difficult time. A celebration oflife will be held on Saturday, August 19th, 2023 from 2pm-5pm with a short service at 2:30pm with Ray Rowland officiating at the Pecan Knoll Farm located at 12778 Rolfe Highway Surry, VA 23883.
