The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Smithfield through 5:15 p.m.

According to the alert, radar indicated a severe thunderstorm at 4:37 p.m. moving northeast at 25 mph.

The NWS is warning expect damage to trees and power lines from possible 60 mph wind gusts, and to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

The entire county remains under a severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m. tonight.
