Main Street Baptist Church, along with The Schoolhouse Museum, will sponsor a back-to-school festival on Aug. 26 with the theme “Generational Connectivity.”

The event begins at 10 a.m. in the church’s Williams Mission Center with a panel discussion featuring Tawana Ford, director of Uplift Academy, representing Isle of Wight County Schools; Officer Robert Herget of the Smithfield Police Department; Richard Linyear Jr., a teacher at Achievable Dreams Academy, representing teachers; Jarad Ford, an education designer, representing former students; and Travis Holloway, a Windsor Elementary third grader, representing present students. Barbara Wiggins will serve as moderator.

A question-and answer period will follow the panel discussion. Bagged lunches, courtesy of Smithfield Foods, and snow cones, provided by Joe Spratley, will be provided to all in attendance, followed by the distribution of school supplies and toiletry items donated by individuals and the business community. Coats and outerwear donated by the Cypress Creek Homeowners Association will also be distributed. The panel discussion will begin at 10 am at the Williams Mission Center.
