Kay Boone Byrd, 79, of Carrollton, VA passed away on September 20, 2023. She was born October 24, 1943 in Suffolk, VA, the daughter of the late, George and Helen Baines Boone. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Samuel L. Byrd, Jr.

Kay worked 47 years at Sentara Obici Hospital as the Nurse Manager of the Ortho and Neuro floor. She worked for five years for Albemarle Home Healthcare on the Outer Banks before officially retiring from her career, but never retiring from her passion for taking care of her family and friends. You could feel her passion for faith and life when she spoke.

She loved decorating her home, working in the yard, and most of all shopping. She was very active with her church family at Smithfield Baptist. She participated in the choir, senior adult ministry, fellowship/food service and the sanctuary committee.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Bew Jones; son, Frederick H. Bew, Jr.; grandson, Oscar D. Jones; sister, Barbara Warren (Delbert) and her children, Kimberly Warren (Pat Edwards) and Dean Warren (Adele); step children, Deena Cordero (Tony), Jay Byrd (Rose), and Karen Ward (Ryan); along with many loved nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023 at 2 PM at Smithfield Baptist Church, 100 Wainwright Dr., Smithfield, VA. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery will be private.
