Missing 10-year-old from Carrollton found safe

The 10-year-old girl reported missing from Carrollton yesterday has been found safe.

Isle of Wight County sheriff’s deputies say Katelynn Clark approached a home on Vellines Lane in Carrollton Tuesday afternoon. The resident recognized her picture from news reports and called 911.

The Sheriff’s Office announced in an updated news release at 7:40 p.m. on Oct. 10 that Clark had been released into the care of Isle of Wight County Social Services pending an investigation into her disappearance.

An earlier news release said security footage from Clark’s home in the Jones Creek Landing mobile home park had showed her leaving the residence at 6:30 a.m. on Oct. 9.

The search for Clark, which began yesterday and resumed this morning, involved multiple first-responder agencies, including Suffolk’s police, fire and rescue departments, the Carrollton’s and Smithfield’s volunteer fire departments, York County Unmanned Aircraft Systems, Virginia State Police,Virginia State Police, Isle of Wight County Emergency Services and Norfolk Police’s drone unit, and the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office.
