Surry Board of Supervisors Dendron District candidate: Brenton Byrd

Editor’s note: Brenton Byrd is running for reelection to the Dendron District seat on Surry County’s Board of Supervisors against Amy Drewry. Byrd did not respond to The Smithfield Times’ 2023 candidate questionnaire. Two of this year’s questions were the same as last year’s questionnaire, which Byrd completed ahead of the November 2022 election when running to fill the remainder of a vacated term. His 2022 answers to questions No. 1 and 2 are reproduced below.

1. Can you briefly summarize why you decided to run for the Board of Supervisors?

I decided to run for office because I love Surry County, Virginia, and we need positive leaders. I want to see Surry County progress daily. I am a graduate from Surry County Public Schools. Some of the most dedicated and influential people in my life, who sowed positive seeds in me, were from Surry County. I believe in the importance of serving and giving back to beautiful Surry County.

2. What should be Surry County’s top priority right now?

Surry’s top priority should include the following: continued economic development, a quality education for all Surry County students and a safe, fun and vibrant community.
