Editor’s note: Shelia Hunt is one of four candidates running for Surry County Clerk of Circuit Court. The Smithfield Times sent the following questionnaire to each candidate. The others are Thomas L.S. Mayes, Earl Newby and Janeen Jackson.

1. What inspired you to run for clerk court?
I have always wanted to be a Clerk for Circuit Court and work as a Public Servant in my Community.
2. What if any changes would you make if elected?
I would provide a fresh new perspective, modernizing court services by raising the customer service standards, excellent customer service, valuing all divisions and promoting a friendly environment for the citizens.
3. How can technology be used to make the office more efficient and accessible to citizens?
Technology will modernize our court system by adopting digital documents. This will allow the court to make information accessible and handle documents with ease. Electronic filing reduces the need for bulky storage. Which will allow attorneys and citizens to submit paperwork online and reduce office visits.
