Letter – Torre will help control growth

Editor, The Smithfield Times:
My husband and I moved to Smithfield from Maryland and love the small-town charm and connection with neighbors. When we learned of the approval for the Mallory-Scott development, with 812 residential units, with no contribution toward schools we grew concerned.
Chris Torre spoke before Smithfield Planning Commission and Town Council regarding the Grange development and what the town could do to ensure the development benefited the town – not just the developer and a few business owners. Chris wrote a column in The Smithfield Times about the ability for municipalities to ensure new development paid for itself and covered the cost of the infrastructure that the development would require. Chris has spoken before and written to the Board of Supervisors about the explosion of growth and what they can do as county leaders to create a plan for beneficial, sustainable growth.
Mr. Torre’s background in commercial construction, his personal style of listening and doing – not just talking – his research and knowledge in planned, managed growth and commitment to ensuring we, the citizens of the county and town, are not paying developers to build here are the reasons I support Chris Torre.
Please consider writing in “Chris Torre” for District 1 Board of Supervisors.
