Virginia State Police have charged a Gloucester County woman in connection with a weekend hit-and-run on Benns Church Boulevard that injured a 14-year-old boy.
According to police, the teenager was walking a bike along the highway at approximately 12:25 a.m. on Nov. 4 when he was struck by a vehicle they’ve identified as a 2019 Nissan Rogue registered to 31-year-old Chanice Lynette Atkinson, who allegedly fled the scene.
The teen was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News with life-threatening injuries.
According to police, the Nissan Rogue matched evidence left at the scene of the crash. On Nov. 5, state police located the vehicle with extensive front-end damage, and its owner, in Gloucester County. The vehicle was seized and removed from the residence.
A day later, on Nov. 6, Atkinson was arrested and charged with felony hit-and-run. She was taken to the Western Tidewater Regional Jail, where she received a $3,500 unsecured bond.
The investigation remains ongoing.
