Football season is over for area teams.

Smithfield High and Surry County High lost their opening games in the regional playoffs over the weekend.

The Packers fell 32-25 to Hampton Saturday, Nov. 11 in the Class 4 playoffs, ending the season with a 5-6 record.

SHS scored first and led 7-0 after the first quarter, but the Crabbers sprinted to a 16-7 halftime lead and held off the Packers in a high-scoring second half. Hampton improved to 7-4.

Surry ended the season with a 3-8 record after a 64-16 playoff loss to Altavista, 8-3.
