Smithfield’s Carsyn Diggs was named to the 2023 Class 4 All-State volleyball 

second team by the Virginia High School League.

Diggs, a senior, is an outside hitter and joined with teammate Ceyali Higgs, a middle blocker, leading the team this fall in its history-making season.

“I can’t wait to see how far Diggs can go playing volleyball. She’s an all-around player with a great attitude,” Smithfield head coach Denero Tagaloa said. “Every time she comes to practice she asks how my day is going and is always willing to hear feedback.”

Diggs and Higgs have a combined 249 kills of the team’s 431.  

The first and second all-state volleyball teams consist of nine position players and one libero. Only those players selected to the all-region first-team are eligible for selection to the all-state team. The all-state selection committee comprises eight coaches, with two from each region.
