Vehicle strikes pedestrian near Westside Elementary

A pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the vicinity of Westside Elementary School has life-threatening injuries.
Virginia State Police responded to the scene just before 6 p.m. on Dec. 18.
According to police, the driver of a 2002 Lincoln Town Car was traveling north on Main Street when an 83-year-old man walked into the lane of travel and was struck by the vehicle’s driver’s side mirror, causing him to spin into the car.
The 83-year-old was flown by helicopter to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Isle of Wight County Schools deferred comments to police.
