Letter – Fireworks out of control

Editor, The Smithfield Times:

The issue of fireworks being shot off has gotten completely out of control.

I understand there are holidays that fireworks are an annual part of, but the individuals shooting off fireworks of their own has gotten ridiculous, and there seems to be a lack of enforcement when it comes to not allowing fireworks in the town limits anymore.

It is disrespectful to veterans living in our area who suffer from PTSD and parents with newborns or little children who get very scared and traumatized due to loud noises. Also, pet owners whose pets get so scared they often run away, never to return or be found.

The fireworks tents that pop up for Fourth of July and New Year’s may be contributing to some of this issue, but a lot of it is individuals who have gotten fireworks from out of state and brought back in town to shoot off.

Some of these fireworks were worse than the ones at the Fourth of July .I am not against all fireworks but feel like people could be more respectful with their fireworks and think about our veterans and pet owners.
