Service restored after burst pipe cuts water to 10 Smithfield houses

UPDATE: Service was restored at approximately 7 p.m.

A ruptured pipe cut water to roughly 10 houses at the corner of Greenbrier Lane and Battery Park Road in Smithfield for several hours on Jan. 3.

Service was restored around 7 p.m. the same day, Town Manager Michael Stallings said.

The break in the water main was caused by a bolt failure that allowed a valve to come apart, Stallings said.

Stallings said the town plans to let the site settle and then come back to repave the section of road that was disturbed.
