A new restaurant is slated to open in the former Chamber of Commerce building on Main Street.

Land transfer records from November showed the sale of the chamber’s office and former Hamtown Hub co-working space at 100 Main St. to Goodlynn Ventures Real Estate for $385,000. The chamber is now based at 319C Main St. in the same building that houses the town’s visitor and arts centers.

The new owner of the former Chamber building, Mischelle Goodman of Smithfield, said she plans to release details at a later date on the new restaurant, which will be called “The Fiddlin’ Pig.”

Public notices ran in The Smithfield Times’ Dec. 27 and Jan. 3 editions noting the business had recently applied to the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority for a “mixed beverage” ABC license that would allow the restaurant to sell or manufacture alcoholic beverages.

According to the notice, any objections to the ABC license must be registered at abc.virginia.gov or by calling 800-552-3200 no later than Jan. 25.
