Louis S. Taylor

Louis S. Taylor was born Jan. 14, 1934 to Louis S. Taylor Sr. and Hortense Waddy in Long Island City, New York. He departed this life Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024.

Following graduation from Alexander Hamilton High School in Brooklyn, New York, he joined the Marines in 1953. In 1957, he married Delores Guice. From this union there were five children: Umar, Darrell, Craig, Tieakia and Kaseem. In 1992, he met Rosetta Garrett and in 1997 they retired and built their home in Smithfield, Virginia. From this union he gained two stepchildren: Lisa Garrett and Marcus Christian (Maria).

Following an honorable discharge as a G4 from the Marines, he worked for Grumman Aerospace Corporation until his retirement in 1992. He loved Black History, music, bicycling, chess and traveling.

He is survived by his loving wife; sister, Jean E. Benjamin (Nesbitt); nieces, Donna Benjamin and Laura Hayward; 20 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He is predeceased by Delores Guice, Ralik Hansen, Tieakia Taylor, Lynette McGriff and Mary Pannell.

Interment will be at a later date at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk.
