Alice Jackson Greene Babcock

Alice “Corky” Jackson Greene Babcock passed away on Monday, January 8, 2024.  She was born to David Minter Jackson and Carrie Johnson Jackson in Front Royal, Virginia, on November 25, 1928.  She was the youngest of ten children, nine girls, and one boy.  Corky was the youngest and the last survivor.

Raised in Greenville, South Carolina, Corky lived in several locations before moving back to Virginia in 1959.   She was a “Bama” fan and spent three happy years on the Alabama campus in Tuscaloosa.

Corky was married to Bill Greene for 32 years, and together they raised seven children: Cheryl (Frank), Cindy (Scott), Bill Jr. (Donna), Wesley (Brigitte), Philip (Julie), Scott (Len), 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.   In 1982, she married her second husband, Robert Anderson Babcock, and they were married for 24 years.  During their married life, they traveled extensively and had a happy life until Bob died in 2006.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Bill Greene and Robert Anderson Babcock, and daughter Sue Carol Greene.

Corky lived at the Arbors at Port Warwick in Newport News for several years and passed away at the Magnolia Manor in Smithfield.

Corky said she was grateful for a good life.  There were sad and bad times, but the good times outweighed the bad.  Her journey on earth may have ended, but her legacy continues through her children, the lives she touched, and the cherished memories held by those who knew her.  She was a beautiful person – both inside and out.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 201 Cedar Street, Smithfield, VA 23430, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2024.
