Carrollton Ruritan Club accepting scholarship applications

Carrollton Ruritan Club and Carrollton Ruritan Educational Fund

are accepting applications for their scholarship program that provides financial assistance for higher education after high school or equivalent. 

Funds for scholarships come from the Ruritan Club and its members, as well from the Ruritan National Foundation and the Carrollton Ruritan Education Fund.

Applications are accepted from any graduating senior from Smithfield High School, Isle of Wight Academy or comparable homeschooling who will begin higher education in the summer and/or fall of 2024, including community college, trade school, unpaid training or apprenticeship, nursing CNA or LPN or RN, police academy, EMT, or other such school.  

Some small preference will be given for residents of greater Carrollton (23314) including Rescue (23424) and Battery Park (23304). Students from other parts of Isle of Wight County also will be considered as will students already enrolled and continuing college attendance. 

One or more scholarships will be offered for amounts of $1,000 or more, according to a club news release.

The application deadline is March 24. The club prefers to receive applications by email. The completed application and supporting recommendations, grades and most recent test scores must be received by March 24 at CarrolltonRuritanVA@hotmail.com, or postmarked by March 21 to P.O. Box 32, Carrollton VA 23314.   

Applications must include up-to-date transcripts of grades, preferably with SAT and/or ACT scores, and  two reference letters, all sent to the club by email or postal mail and by the application deadline. 

Late or incomplete information will disqualify the application. 

Applications may be obtained from the guidance office of the schools mentioned above, or by inquiry to the Ruritan Club’s email address above.
