A Smithfield woman died in a single-vehicle crash on Jan. 23 at Brewers Neck Boulevard, north of New Town Haven Lane in Carrollton.

Virginia State Police were dispatched to the crash at approximately 11:02 p.m. According to police, 51-year-old Bridgette Lynn Pardoe of Smithfield was driving north on Brewers Neck Boulevard in a 2004 Ford Taurus when she lost control of the vehicle, ran off the roadway and struck a ditch. The car overturned several times before ejecting her.

Due to the extent of her injuries, police were initially unable to identify the driver. Police released Pardoe’s name on Jan. 26 following confirmation of her identity by the medical examiner’s office and notification of next-of-kin.

Police say Pardoe was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash and haven’t determined if speed or alcohol were factors.
