The Smithfield Lions Club recently added more service minded, quality members to its roster with District Governor Homer Cook presiding over the induction ceremony. New members pictured from left are Susan Reynolds, Mavis Garrett, Sam Gilliam, Rene Gilliam, Kay Bright, District Governor, Homer Cook, Laurie Mercer, Cecile Petrone, Kathy Grillo and Sam Grillo. Since 1977, the club has been providing service to the community with initiatives such as school vision and hearing screenings, providing eye exams and glasses to those in need, eyeglass recycling, and support for programs including the Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Project Lifesaver, Smithfield High School’s Junior ROTC’s Stop the Bleed, and the Lions Club Medical Eyebank.  They sponsor the Smithfield High School Leo Club, support the arts with music and art competitions and provide scholarships for service minded high school seniors.  New members means new ideas, new enthusiasm and more hands to spread the community service  work.
