Letter – Put principle above politics

Editor, The Smithfield Times:

Liz Cheney lost her seat in Wyoming as congresswoman because she spoke out against Donald Trump. Recently she called Trump “ignorant.”

I love her because of her moral courage! She reminds me of John McCain, Mitt Romney and Edmund G. Ross, all of whom stood against political party pressures. Ross and Cheney each paid a big price politically. I hope it turns out better for Cheney in the future as it did for Edmund G. Ross.

Trump is ignorant. Republicans are simply not going to say that, though, because of votes. They are cowards who are willing not to presently support Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan because they took out the support for dealing with our southern border — all because Trump wants the border as a campaign issue.

Republicans would rather support an idiot who has not a clue on foreign policy. It’s a very critical time for Americans to stand up. But yet Trump and his party, which it is his party now, would rather get him elected than make the world safer for all of us. Very frustrating!
