Letter – Infrastructure realities

Editor, The Smithfield Times:

The March 20th edition of The Smithfield Times offers many proposals about what infrastructure the town and the county need to address. I offer my concern.

The transportation infrastructure in the Smithfield/Carrollton vicinity is currently inadequate to support the existing need. I hope that I am not the only one who understands that the Nike Park corridor WILL BE a four-lane road in the very near future and it will need to extend to Route 17.

When the county embarked on the walking path along Nike Park Road, part of the plan should have included a reconstruction of the Fulgham bridge that would have accommodated a pedestrian lane and prepared for the expected four-lane roadway. Instead, a Bridge over the River Kwai 2.0 solution was implemented that serves very few folks.

Notice, the spandex-clad two-wheelers refuse to use the path. Not their style.
