Editor, The Smithfield Times:

I am supporting Missy Cotter Smasal (MISSY for Congress) as a Democrat for Congress in Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District in the June Democratic primary. When successful in the primary, in November’s general election she will run against incumbent Jen Kiggans.

Why do I support Missy? Because she is reliable, and you can trust her to work hard to accomplish her objectives. Her to-do list when elected includes:

• Protecting women’s rights to make their own decisions regarding reproductive health care. The current incumbent calls this issue a shiny object and equated it to a nose job.
• Supporting our veterans. Missy is a veteran and will turn around the incumbent’s voting against the best interests of our 2nd Congressional District veterans.
• Resisting extremist legislation such as eliminating the Affordable Care Act, and cutting Social Security and Medicare, which the incumbent’s party seems so anxious to do.
• Protecting our environment. Missy is the Virginia city representative on the Chesapeake Bay Commission. She is the only candidate in this race whom we can trust to work across party lines to protect our natural resources and environment.  

In summary, Missy not only has my support but has been endorsed by many of the local leaders we trust. This includes the entire Democratic congressional delegation in Virginia, including U.S. Rep. Bobby Scott.

Early voting has begun in the Democratic primary for Congress in the 2nd Congressional District. Vote for Missy for Congress!
