I just had lunch at Anna’s in Smithfield. I will be 81 years old in November and have a good driving record and I’m proud of it! I had to learn late in my life to drive at 37 after I was suddenly widowed when my husband died in a plane crash at the airport in 1980.

Just now on Benns Church Boulevard as I drove the 45 mph heading home, everyone around me was speeding by me. A white truck was on my rear and I motioned with my hand that the speed limit was 45 and I was not going to drive any faster for anyone! This truck swerved around me and came over as if to side-swipe my car.

I got into the left lane so I could turn at the corner of Benns Church to head home, and this truck slowed beside me as if to harass me. I watched and he turned at the grounds of the new hospital site.

Americans have lost their decency, their morals and values, it seems to me. No one behaves themselves any more, and it is always the victim’s fault.

At nearly 81,  I no longer feel safe in my own country. If you travel the roadways going the speed limit you are “attacked.” I wish at times I had a tank to drive and see if they mess with me then.
