Hampton University has recruited Marcus Glanville, Smithfield High School’s first-ever state outdoor track champion.

Glanville, a 2024 SHS graduate, placed first statewide in the Class 4 300 meter hurdle with a time of 38.6 seconds, setting a school record.

Hampton University’s head track coach, Maurice Pierce, said he recruited Glanville specifically for his performance in hurdle races.

“He’s an outstanding athlete; the sky is the limit for him,” Pierce said. “He’s going to be good for us. He’s going to fit right in.”
