Bacon’s Castle to host ‘Spring Village Faire’

The 17th century Bacon’s Castle homestead will hold a “Spring Village Faire” on April 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The event will include local artists, vendors, food and drink, and the Blackwater Regional Library bookmobile.

The “Tidewater Dogs of War” living history group will also be demonstrating real armored battles.

Tickets include open house tours of Bacon’s Castle, built in 1665. The house is the oldest brick dwelling in North America.

Outside, in the historic gardens, the Regency Society will perform living history demonstrations and man a Maypole.

Tickets are $8 for students, $9 for senior citizens, AAA members and military, and $10 for general admission. Preservation Virginia members and children age 6 and under can attend for free.

The event will be held rain or shine, and all recommended U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention COVID-19 protections will be followed.

Bacon’s Castle is located at 465 bacon’s Castle Trail, Surry.
