Tonight’s downtown Smithfield Summer Concert Series kickoff performance by bluesman Bobby BlackHat has been canceled due to inclement weather expected this evening.

Smithfield and Isle of Wight County’s joint tourism department announced the cancellation this morning. The concert was to start at 7 p.m.

The National Weather Service is predicting between a quarter and half an inch of rainfall, and possibly a thunderstorm, this afternoon with wind gusts as high as 24 mph. The NWS has issued a tornado watch for all of Isle of Wight County and surrounding localities through 6 p.m.

The next concert in the series, scheduled for 7 p.m. June 3 at the Smithfield Times gazebo on Main Street, is Gospel Night with Slater Joel.
