Packers to play for regional titles in boys, girls soccer and baseball

Smithfield High School’s varsity boys soccer, girls soccer and baseball teams have each advanced to compete for a Region 4A title against Menchville High School and a berth in the Virginia High School League Class 4 State Tournament on June 17.

In boys soccer, the undefeated and No. 1-seeded Packers reached the final by defeating No. 5 Jamestown High School 4-1 in the semifinals June 15 after topping No. 8 Warhill High School 5-1 in a June 14 quarterfinal game.

The Packers (12-0) will host No. 5 Menchville High School (11-0-1) in the championship game June 17 at 7 p.m.

In girls soccer, the No. 2 Lady Packers have traveled a similar path toward a championship showdown with Menchville.

Smithfield won 4-0 against No. 3 Jamestown in the semifinals June 15 after blowing out No. 7 Woodrow Wilson High School 9-0 on June 14 in the quarterfinals.

The Lady Packers visit No. 1 Menchville on June 17 at 4 p.m.

In baseball, Smithfield holds the seventh seed and has achieved its title contest against No. 1 Menchville through upsets.

The Packers beat No. 6 Grafton High School 11-4 on June 16 in the semifinals, and they upended No. 2 Churchland High School 5-3 in the quarterfinals June 14.

Smithfield plays Menchville in the championship June 17 at 4:30 p.m.
